Apicoectomy in Pittsburgh
Endodontic microsurgery is often reserved for patients with teeth that have been treated multiple times and still continue to have pain and re-infections.
There are several reasons why microsurgery maybe the recommended treatment:
- Cracked root
- Failed retreatment
- Inaccessibility to the infection site with traditional approaches
- Calcified canal that is unable to be adequately instrumented and cleaned.
An apicoectomy is a microsurgical procedure that involves an incision along your gums to gain access to the infection, removing the infection at the root tip end, placing a filling, and then placing a few sutures at the end of the procedure. Your body will then naturally heal the site over the course of several months. After the procedure, it is common to have some discomfort, pain and possible swelling. A detailed post-operative instruction sheet will be discussed and provided and if there are any concerns, please contact our office.
